Book Review: Unforgivable by James Fuller

Jason Salvatore

I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Unforgivable by James Fuller is a fiction novel set in Medieval times, about a man named Jamus seeking vengeance on his murdered family.

The book follows Jamus, a farmer, in his search for his daughter and the men who killed his family to kidnap her. He soon meets Barbra, a maid for one of the targeted men, who joins him on his journey.

I felt this book had some strengths and weaknesses. Some of the strengths go to the writing. It was very well written and had me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Another strength was the voice acting for the audiobook. The deep, gravelly voice added to the dark and dirty feel of the story itself.

Some of the weaknesses would have to go toward the writing as well. It was very well written but I noticed a repetition of phrases throughout the book.

The length of the book was also very upsetting. The audiobook was only 3 hours long and from the description on Amazon, it looks like the book itself is only 97 pages long. For the genre, and the story subject (revenge and a journey), it could have easily gotten into the 100,000-word count, which is the usual word count for a story of this type. The major thing that factors into the word count is the lack of a “B plot”. The whole story is following the “A plot” without touching anything else. I'm not giving spoilers but there were a few scenes that were added that could have been a good “B Plot”, but were sadly cut short and felt a little unnecessary.

There are 2 other books in this series, but with a little work, a book of this length could have had all 3 books in one.

I did like the book but I wouldn't buy it for $13 on Amazon for a paperback, not at this length. The audiobook is only $3 and seems a little more appropriate for the length.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys revenge stories and needs a quick read. CONTENT WARNING FOR R*PE and PEDOPHILIA.
